SpotMyPhotos more or less invented the category of consent-based, face-matched event photo delivery, and it is very good at it. It is also a subscription that starts at $195 a month with no free tier — which is the wrong shape entirely if you shoot eight events a year rather than eighty. SnapStream charges per event instead. Here is an honest comparison, including where SpotMyPhotos is still the better buy.

What SpotMyPhotos actually costs
SpotMyPhotos is sold as a monthly or annual subscription, tiered by device licences and monthly photo volume. There is no free tier and no trial listed on the pricing page.
| Plan | Monthly | Annual | Devices | Photos / month |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pro | $195 | $1,699 ($142/mo) | 2 | 8,000 |
| Pro Plus | $295 | $2,500 ($208/mo) | 5 | 15,000 |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Custom | Unlimited per event |
Go past your monthly allowance and it's $29 per additional 1,000 photos. Need a third camera running at once on Pro? That's $49 per extra device licence. Photo auto-optimisation is $20 per event on Pro, and included on Pro Plus.
None of that is unreasonable for what it does. But notice the unit: it's per month, and it's billed whether or not you shot anything. The cheapest way in is $195 for one month, and the cheapest annual commitment is $1,699.
The mismatch: monthly pricing for occasional work
Event photography is lumpy. A wedding photographer might shoot two events in March and none in June. A conference organiser runs one flagship event a year. A subscription charges the same in June as in March.
Run the arithmetic for a photographer shooting four weddings a year. On SpotMyPhotos Pro, the honest annual number is $1,699 (or $2,340 paying month to month; you could pause between events, but you're then managing your billing around your calendar). On SnapStream Essential, four events is 4 × $49 = $196. Nothing at all in the months you don't shoot.
Invert the volumes and it flips. Shoot 30 events a year at Essential and you're at $1,470, and SpotMyPhotos Pro at $1,699 with an 8,000-photo monthly allowance starts looking like the sensible buy. That's the real dividing line — not features, cadence.
What SnapStream costs
Client galleries are free, permanently, with 20GB of storage and no commission on anything you sell through them. Face matching and WhatsApp delivery are what you pay for, per event, on the events that need it.
| Tier | Price / event | Guests | Photos |
|---|---|---|---|
| Taster | Free | 20 | 80 |
| Essential | $49 | 80 | 400 |
| Luxe | $149 | 200 | 1,500 |
| Classic | $299 | 600 | 4,000 |
The Taster tier is genuinely free — a real event, up to 20 guests and 80 photos, keeping the SnapStream watermark. It exists so you can test face matching on a live event before spending anything, which is the thing SpotMyPhotos' pricing page doesn't offer. Full detail on our pricing page.
Where the photos actually land
This is the other real difference, and it's about geography as much as product. SpotMyPhotos is built primarily around on-site capture and web/email delivery, with device licences and tethering central to the workflow — a model tuned for US and European corporate events.
SnapStream delivers over WhatsApp. A guest scans a QR code, which opens a WhatsApp chat, sends one selfie, and their photos come back to them in that same thread with a link to their own private gallery. No app, no account, no password, no email address. In South Africa, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Nigeria and most of the countries where WhatsApp is the default way people talk to each other, that difference is the whole product: you are delivering into the app your guests already have open, not asking them to check an inbox.
Where SpotMyPhotos is the better choice
Any comparison written by one of the two products should be read with suspicion, so let's be concrete about where we lose:
- Sheer volume. 8,000 photos a month on the entry plan dwarfs our per-event photo caps. If you're shooting multi-day conferences back to back, that headroom matters and the subscription maths works in their favour.
- Tethered, on-site workflows. Device licences, multi-camera capture and real-time on-site delivery are what SpotMyPhotos is engineered around. If your client expects photos on a screen at the venue within seconds of the shutter, that's their home ground.
- Track record at corporate scale. They've been doing consent-based face matching for large US and European corporate clients for years, with the compliance posture (GDPR, US state biometric law) that procurement departments ask about.
- Frequency. Bluntly: past roughly a couple of events a month, a subscription is the cheaper unit. We're not going to pretend otherwise.
How to choose
Pick SpotMyPhotos if…
Events are your full-time trade, you shoot most weeks, you need thousands of photos a month and multiple tethered devices, and predictable monthly billing suits your business.
Pick SnapStream if…
You shoot events occasionally and resent paying for the quiet months; your guests live on WhatsApp; you want free unlimited client galleries alongside the face matching; or you simply want to try face-matched delivery on a real event without a $195 commitment.
